The best decaf beans I’ve tasted

My partner and I love coffee but currently looking to reducing caffeine intake. We’ve been trying various decaf beans and it’s been hard to find something fresh and tasty - and we’re so happy to have come across Counter Coffee! It’s seriously the best one and we’ve been enjoying it a lot, and it’s now a stable in our household.

Great coffee

Great tasting coffee with the added bonus of knowing exactly what amount of cafeína you get!

1KG bag of roasted coffee beans

I wouldn’t say I’m a coffee connoisseur or aficionado, I like a cup of expresso or the occasional cappuccino. These days i tend to drink Decaf mainly for health reasons.
This is a big bag of beans, 1kg big. Opening the bag they smell really fresh and they grind easily.
I use a stove top coffee pot and these beans are perfect for my needs.
The taste is strong but smooth with no trace of bitterness.
I was encouraged to see the Rainforest Alliance logo on the pack which reassures me that the growers and producers are treated fairly.
A large pack of good quality coffee at a very reasonable price. I'm happy with that.

Enjoy the Rich Flavor Without the Caffeine Kick with Counter Coffee's Mexican Decaf Whole Beans

Counter Coffee's Mexican Decaf Whole Beans are a delightful choice for coffee lovers who want to enjoy the rich flavor of Arabica beans without the caffeine jolt. With their chemical-free decaffeination process, medium roast profile, and Rainforest Alliance certification, these beans offer a satisfying and guilt-free coffee experience.

Upon receiving Counter Coffee's Mexican Decaf Whole Beans, I was immediately impressed by the aroma that greeted me upon opening the package. The beans exude a rich and inviting scent, promising a flavorful and enjoyable cup of coffee. The whole bean format allows for optimal freshness and flavor retention, ensuring a delicious brew with every cup.

One of the standout features of these decaf beans is their chemical-free decaffeination process. Counter Coffee utilizes a natural decaffeination method that preserves the integrity of the beans while removing the caffeine, resulting in a smooth and balanced flavor profile without any harsh chemical aftertaste. This process also ensures that the beans retain their natural antioxidants and nutrients, making them a healthier choice for coffee drinkers.

Great smell ☕

Counter Coffee Mexican Mountain Water Process Decaf Coffee Beans.
A nice large 1 kg sized bag of roasted beans.
Coffee and beans smell amazing it's a Medium Roast and personally I feel it's more than satisfying enough for a decaf coffee especially when left to brew for around 10 minutes.
I will happily get this again.

Understanding Caffeine Strength

The most important factor affecting caffeine content is the weight of coffee used, not the brewing method. Here's how it works:

  • More coffee = More caffeine: Using 30g (6.5 tablespoons) instead of 22g (5 tablespoons) increases caffeine by approximately 36%
  • Brewing method matters less: The extraction efficiency varies only slightly between methods
  • Personal control: You can easily adjust caffeine levels by changing the coffee dose

Quick Caffeine Reference:

  • Light caffeine (under 50mg): Single espresso from any coffee, or any decaf brew
  • Moderate caffeine (50-150mg): Double espresso, standard V60, half caf options
  • Higher caffeine (150mg+): French press with full dose, or increasing coffee weight in any method

Grind Size Guide:

  • Fine (like table salt): For espresso machines - allows proper extraction under pressure
  • Medium (like caster sugar): For pour over methods like V60 - balanced extraction
  • Coarse (like sea salt): For French press - prevents over-extraction during long steeping

Pro Tips:

  1. For stronger caffeine: Increase coffee dose rather than over-extracting
  2. For milder caffeine: Choose half caf or decaf, or reduce coffee weight
  3. Consistent dosing: Use scales for repeatable caffeine levels, but tablespoons work in a pinch
  4. Time awareness: Remember our recommendation to switch to half caf or decaf from 3pm for better sleep
  5. Grind fresh: Always grind just before brewing for the best flavour and caffeine extraction

All caffeine levels are lab-tested estimates based on 4.5g per tablespoon. Individual sensitivity varies, and we recommend staying within 300-400mg daily depending on your weight and tolerance.

How does caffeine work?

Caffeine stimulates the central nervous system, increasing alertness and reducing fatigue.

How long does caffeine stay in your system?

It takes 6 hours for 50% of the caffeine in your system to be metabolised and 12 hours for 75%. So a full caf afternoon coffee is still in your system at bedtime.

Caffeine's affect on dopamine release

Caffeine can be a mood booster by blocking adenosine receptors and increasing dopamine signalling.

Caffeine Sensitivity Varies:

Some people are highly sensitive to caffeine and can feel jittery or anxious even with small amounts, while others can tolerate large doses without noticeable effects.
